Presentation
During the decathlon race violent impact trauma of the knee.
Patient Data
Anterior dislocation of the leg.
No appreciable fractures.
There is a cortical impact lesion of the lateral femoral condyle, posteriorly (yellow arrow).
Normal articular features of the left knee.
Case Discussion
A knee dislocation is defined as complete displacement of the tibia with respect to the femur, with disruption of three or more of the stabilizing ligaments. Small avulsion fractures from the ligaments and capsular insertions may be present.
The most common soft-tissue injuries in the dislocated knee are to the popliteal artery and the common peroneal nerve.
