Knee joint effusion

Twisting injury.

Patient Data

Age: 20
Gender: Male

Small to moderate sized knee joint effusion. Borderline deepening of the lateral femoral notch. Edema seen within the deep aspect of Hoffa's fat pad. No fracture seen. Appearance suspicious for internal derangement, especially ACL tear, which could be assessed with MRI.

Typical appearance of a knee joint effusion. This patient was found to have an ACL tear on MRI.
