Info

There is a collapsed thoracic vertebra (T11).

A transverse intravertebral gas cleft with associated collapse is visible in the same vertebra. These findings are highly suggestive of avascular necrosis of the vertebral body.

Another significant finding is bibasilar subpleural reticulation and bands that favour early pulmonary fibrosis.

Case Discussion

A transverse intravertebral vacuum cleft sign is highly suggestive of Kümmell disease, which is not seen in other causes of pathologic fractures of the vertebra.
