Chronic rhinosinusitis planning for FESS (functional endoscopic sinus surgery)

There is medial protrusion of the intraorbital fat into the ethmoid air cell through a dehiscence of the lamina papyracea on the left side.
Mild mucosal thickening of the left anterior ethmoidal air cells is also noted.

Case Discussion

Dehiscence of the lamina papyracea refers to a bony defect in the medial orbital wall with herniation of the intraorbital fat ± medial rectus muscle into the ethmoidal air cells. It may be a developmental variant or occur after trauma.
