Large bowel obstruction due to incarcerated inguinal hernia

Vomiting and abdominal pain

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Male

Left inguinal hernia containing sigmoid colon and free fluid content. This causes a mechanical large bowel obstruction, with marked proximal large and small bowel dilatation, collapsed distal part of the sigmoid colon and rectum.

No pneumatosis or convincing bowel wall hypoenhancement to suggest ischemia.

Smaller direct right side inguinal hernia containing fluid and fat, no bowel content.
