Presentation

Presyncope and SOB. Hx of NSCLC. Currently on chemotherapy.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Enlargement of the CTR and a globular configuration of the heart in keeping with a large pericardial effusion. No signs of pulmonary edema.

Large pericardial effusion confirmed.

pathology

Case Discussion

The patient had a pericardiocentesis and cytology confirmed metastatic pericardial SCC. Further imaging did not identify a primary. The patient subsequently underwent multiple courses of CTX and had several episodes of cardiac tamponade requiring pericardiocentesis.
