Laser photocoagulation of osteoid osteoma

Case contributed by Dr Salem Bauones

Elbow pain

Patient Data

Age: 45
Gender: Male

Pre treatment MRI and CT scan reveal small rounded hypervascularized cortical lesion developped in the lateral border of the radial head corresponding to the nidus of osteoid osteoma. Note the bony and soft tissue inflammatory reactions demonstrated as bone marrow edema of the proximal third of radius with soft tissue edema and joint effusion.

The tumor was treated percutanously by laser photocoagulation: 2 W of power was applied for 10 minutes.

1 year follow up CT scan images show sequelae of nidus ablation which is well destructed. Clinically, the patient is free of pain.
