Lateral dislocation of patella

Sudden pain with limited range of movement of left knee while dancing

Patient Data

Age: 12 years
Gender: Female

Tangential view shows complete lateral displacement of the patella.

Dislocated patella was reduced in the department of emergency and the repeat X-ray were taken.


Lateral and anterior-posterior view shows normal positioned patella after the reduction

Case Discussion

Lateral dislocation of the patella is by far the most common type which may occur from trauma or torsional stress when direction is suddenly changed while running or even dancing.
