Lateral lumbar disc herniation with psoas edema

Left lateral herniation of the L1/2 and L2/3 discs protrudes into the deep aspect of the left psoas muscle and is associated with surrounding intramuscular T2 hyperintensity.
Case Discussion
A far lateral herniation accompanying degenerative change can elicit significant adjacent muscular edema, as seen in this case, and should not be confused for an infective etiology. This was an incidental finding on an MRCP.
