Lateral medullary syndrome

Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Wallenberg syndrome.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female
mri

There is a small area of hyperintense signal in the lateral part of the medulla oblongata with restricted diffusion and a tiny zone with low ADC.

Incidental finding -  calcified meningioma on the left occipital region.

Arterial fenestration of the right A1 segment.

Partially empty sella.

Case Discussion

It's hard to reveal pathologic changes in the medulla oblongata in this case due to the small region of diffusion restriction and lateral localization.

T2 FLAIR 3D sequence with an isotropic voxel improves the image quality as well as sensitivity to the brainstem signal abnormalities.
