Lateral meniscus bucket handle tear

Presentation

Functional limitation in flexion-extension with pain in the lateral compartment

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female

There is a lesion of the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus with a meniscal fragment displaced anteriorly and medially.

The medial meniscus, cruciate ligaments and collateral are normal.

There is modest joint effusion in suprapatellar recess associated with bone marrow edema of the tibial plateau.

Case Discussion

Bucket-handle tears are displaced longitudinal tears. They often demonstrate double PCL and absent bow tie signs.
