Lateral patellar dislocation

Knee pain after trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female

Moderate joint effusion is seen. 

Bone bruise involving the lateral femoral condyle is noted.

Osteochondral injury of the medial articular surface of the patella with underlying bruise is evident.

Redundant medial patellar retinaculum is present.

Baker cyst also is seen at the posteromedial aspect of the knee joint.

Case Discussion

Lateral patellar dislocation refers to lateral displacement followed by dislocation of patella due to disruptive changes to the medial patellar retinaculum.
