Presentation

Twisting injury of the left knee.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Female
mri

There is bone marrow edema involving the medial side of the patella and lateral side of the femoral condyle with flattened trochlear groove.

The patellar attachment of the medial retinaculum shows increased girth with abnormal signal intensity, impressive of sprained or partially torn medial retinaculum.

Moderate knee joint effusion.

An oval eccentric lesion adjacent to the posterior cortex of the distal femoral diametaphysis is entirely consistent with a non ossifying fibroma.

Intact ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL as well as quadriceps and patellar tendons.

Case Discussion

In summary, this distribution pattern of bone marrow edema with associated soft tissue injury, are impressive of transient lateral patellar dislocation injury secondary to flattened trochlear groove.
