An erect frontal abdominal x-ray showing loss of haustral markings of the transverse and descending segments of the large colon. No evidence of pneumoperitoneum.
This featureless smooth appearance of the diseased segment of the large bowel is referred to as lead-pipe sign and is often seen in patients with chronic ulcerative colitis. The patient had a past medical history of long-standing ulcerative colitis.
