Presentation
Palpable painful mass along the plantar aspect of the foot.
Patient Data
Fusiform mass of about 2 cm in the subcutaneous tissue superficial to the plantar aponeurosis with heterogeneous structure and a few thin hyperechoic septa; no flows on color Doppler.
A nodular soft tissue mass with ill defined margins in the distal plantar fascia, adjacent to the muscles, with low - intermediate signal on T1w and T2w sequences.
Case Discussion
Ledderhose disease (or plantar fibromatosis) is a benign disorder due to a fibrous proliferation arising within the plantar aponeurosis.
Patients present with one or more, soft - tissue subcutaneous mass on the medial aspect of the sole of the foot, painful or not.
At ultrasound the lesion is hypoechoic or mixed echogenic, with or without flows inside on Color and Power Doppler; on MR imaging the nodule has low signal intensity on T1w sequences and low - intermediate signal intensity on T2 sequences.
