Presentation

Chronic cough. Follow up chest radiograph. Background: ischemic heart disease

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male

Status post sternotomy and CABG. Left atrial appendage closure device within left atrium. 

Left pleural effusion and lower zone atelectasis. 

Case Discussion

Cardiac devices such as pacemakers, loop recorders, etc. are commonly seen on chest radiograph.

Left atrial closure devices are not as often seen. Also, different types are used by cardiac surgeons depending on the clinical scenario. It is crucial to know their appearance and typical position. 

In this case, an AtriClip closure device within the left appendage is seen.
