Case contributed by Dr Dai Roberts

Gender: Female

Left intracapsular neck of femur fracture with mild displacement.  Partially imaged right hip hemiarthroplasty.  Lower lumbar degenerative disc height loss.

Case Discussion

Neck of femur fractures, often abbreviated to 'NOFs', can affect the intracapsular neck, extracapsular portion or proximal femur.  Hemiarthroplasty is performed for displaced intracapsular neck of femur fractures in those deemed not suitable for total hip replacement (THR). Undisplaced fractures can be treated with cannulated hip screws.
