Left lower lobe collapse

Presentation

Patient with cough and dyspnea for couple of days. Sent to hospital with suspected pneumonia.

Patient Data

Age: 72
Gender: Male
Modality: X-ray

Triangular left paravertebral opacity with the double cardiac contour.

Left shift of the mediastinum.

Modality: CT

A pathological mass in the lower pole of the left hilum with complete obstruction of left lower lobar bronchus, and consequential left lower lobe atelectasis.


Remarked mediastinal lymphadenopathy and pleural effusion.

Case Discussion

Although the findings on CT are obvious and easy to spot, it is important not to miss not such a finding an the plain film, especially if there is only PA projection available.
