Left pneumonectomy

Follow-up chest x-ray after left pneumonectomy for a squamous cell carcinoma.

Patient Data

Age: 55
Gender: Male

Completely opacified (white-out) of the left hemithorax with a small supraclavicular air-fluid level.

Mild deviation of the trachea to the left and mild expansion of the right lung.

The left hemidiaphragm is elevated.

Case Discussion

The patient was diagnosed with the squamous cell carcinoma of the left lung and then underwent a left pneumonectomy.

This was a follow-up x-ray, three months after the first post-operative xrays. There were no significant changes compared to the previous examination.
