Left side acoustic schwannoma with right side meningioma in cistern of Galen vein

Case contributed by Ghazale Jamalipour Soufi
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Sensory neural hearing loss.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

MRI demonestrating a hemogenous avidly enhancing and well-defined mass at the inferior aspect of the vein of Galen cistern. There is a left sided enhancing mass which almost certainly represent an intracanalicular acoustic schwannoma.

Case Discussion

Meningiomas that arising from the falcotentorial junction (the junction of the dural folds of tentorium and falx cerebri) occupies the quadrigeminal cistern by protruding anteriorly and inferiorly.

Solid nodular mass with intense contrast enhancement and intracanalicular component and widening of porus acusticus represent acoustic schwannoma

In a relatively young patient having both tumors raises the possibility of neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2).
