Patient underwent triphasic CT scan of the abdomen for suspected hepatic neoplasm
Patient Data
Coronal and axial images of the abdomen show the location of the IVC in relation to the aorta.
The distal inferior vena cava is to the left of the aorta and spine, then it crosses the midline to the right of the aorta at the level of the renal veins.
Other findings in the provided images are liver parenchymal lesions suspicious for neoplasm, cholecystolithiasis, retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy, and calcified plaques in the aorta.
Case Discussion
Anomalous regression of the right supracardinal vein and persistence of the left supracardinal system results in transposition of the inferior vena cava or left-sided inferior vena cava. The prevalence of this anomaly is 0.2%.
