Left ventricular enlargement on chest radiography (illustration)

Case contributed by Dr Vincent Tatco

Dilatation of the left ventricle results to lateral and downward displacement of the cardiac apex on frontal chest radiographs.

Left ventricular hypertrophy usually results to rounded appearance of the cardiac apex.

On lateral view, left ventricular enlargement manifests as posterior displacement of the left ventricular margin.
