Presentation

Known Lennox-Gastaut syndrome since adolescence. Vagus nerve stimulation treatment for decades. Newly onset status epilepticus.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male
ct

Note marked ventriculomegaly especially compared to age (see e.g. bilateral temporal horns). Moderate cerebellar atrophy (increased CSF spaces in between folia) is also apparent. 

Status post intubation, nasopharyngeal airway tube in situ. 

Case Discussion

The cause of the status epilepticus was found to be the completely discharged battery of the vagus nerve stimulation device.
