Presentation

Claudication.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male

Complete occlusion of the infrarenal aorta extending to the common iliac arteries and proximal portion of the internal iliac arteries with atheromatous disease and extensive network of collaterals.

Severe proximal stenosis of the celiac trunk with poststenotic dilatation.

Normal opacification of the superior mesenteric artery. Occluded inferior mesenteric artery with collateral pathway via arc of Riolan.

The common, superficial and deep femoral arteries as well as popliteal and leg arteries are patent (not shown).

Case Discussion

Aortoiliac occlusive disease, also known as Leriche syndrome is defined as a complete occlusion of the aorta distal to the renal arteries. Atherosclerotic obstruction of the aortoiliac arteries is considered the main cause of this syndrome.
