Right forefoot trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

A lesser metatarsal sesamoid is present medial to the fifth metatarsal head.

Medial hallucal sesamoid bone also is bipartite with no relation to recent trauma.

Case Discussion

The clinical significance of sesamoid bones is probably minor, but clinicians commonly ask about the sesamoid bones, and this may induce an unessential work-up.
