Soft tissue mass sensation in the back in a boy with claudication

Patient Data

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male

Posterior spinal defect covered with skin and subcutaneous fat tissue at lower lumbar levels is seen. The neural placode-lipoma interface lies within the spinal canal at the level of L3-L4. 

Low lying tethered cord as well as syrinx are also noted.


  • Lipomyelocele
