Presentation
Low back pain and voiding dysfunction.
Patient Data
Low lying cord at S2 with fatty mass dorsal to cord displacing the cord ventrally with the 'lipoma-placode interface' within the spinal canal.
The lipoma is in continuity with subcutaneous fat through a dorsal dural defect at the level of S2 vertebral body (spina bifida).
Enlarged urinary bladder with multiple small diverticulae, may suggest neurogenic bladder as a sequel of the disease.
Case Discussion
The features are diagnostic of lipomyelocele. Renal abnormalities are common in this entity. However, these abnormalities were not present in this patient.
This case is contributed by Dr. Naqibullah Foladi, and Dr. Najibullah Rasouly.
