Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Female

A double S-shaped intrauterine device (IUD), also known as Lippes Loop, is noted in the endometrial cavity without surrounding CT-detectable fluid accumulation or inflammatory changes.

Diastasis recti is present up to 5 cm.

A 22 mm thin-walled non-enhanced cyst is noted in the right adnexa.

There is mild but diffuse urinary bladder wall thickening.

Degenerative changes such as osteophytosis are seen in the lumbar spine.
Grade I spondylolisthesis of L5 on S1 is present with bilateral spondylolysis.

Case Discussion

The first Lippes Loop intrauterine device (IUD) was introduced in 1962 and was commonly used until the 1980s. Prolonged use of this IUD was common but often associated with complications like post-menopausal uterine bleeding and pelvic inflammatory disease.

This patient had her IUD inserted 50 years ago. The CT images show no apparent signs of complication, and the patient's symptoms were unrelated to the left IUD.
