Liver beaver tail

Case contributed by Dr Craig Hacking

Patient Data

Age: 40-50 years
Gender: Female

The left lobe of the liver is slender and extends laterally to wrap around the anterior border of the spleen, what is known as a 'beaver tail' liver.

Also note how low density the liver is in keeping with steatosis. The patient was an alcoholic.

Case Discussion

The beaver tail liver is a variant of hepatic morphology.
