Right upper quadrant abdominal pain and multiple echogenic liver mass lesions on ultrasound exam.
Patient Data
Multiple hypodense to isodense masses in the right hepatic lobe with sizes up to 110 mm are seen which have an extrahepatic bulge in some parts and marginal nodular enhancement in the portal venous phase and centripetal enhancement through the performed triphasic liver MDCT. Two small calculi in the left kidney are also noted.
Case Discussion
The case illustrates the typical triphasic MDCT features of multiple hepatic hemangiomas. Most liver hemangiomas are asymptomatic and are incidentally found on routine ultrasound exams of the liver. The most important differential diagnosis of multiple hepatic hemangiomas is liver metastasis which triphasic MRI or MDCT can differentiate in most cases.
