Presentation

Scaly itchy rash since a recent holiday in Africa. superficial lacerations on hands and both shins.

Patient Data

Age: Young adult.
Gender: Male
X-ray

Left hand X-rays

Within the soft tissues, there are curvilinear areas of soft tissue calcification.

These have the appearances of infection, and Loa Loa is most likely.

Case Discussion

Loa-Loa is an endemic filariasis in parts of central and west Africa.

It is caused by bites from the deer fly, and skin and eye infestations are common.
