Presentation

Knee pain.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

Marked joint effusion.

There is a 9 x16 mm localized nodular synovial proliferation involving the infra-patellar Hoffa's pad of fat, demonstrating hypointense T1 and hyperintense T2/ PD fat suppression signal with some foci of low signal in the sequences.

Meniscal, cruciate and collateral ligaments are intact.

 Intact articular cartilage.

 No marrow signal abnormality.

Localized pigmented villonodular synovitis is a focal nodular hypertrophic process originating from a small area of the synovium with pigmentation from hemosiderin.
