Low flow venous malformation

Case contributed by Dr Angela Byrne

Swelling of forearm

Patient Data

Age: 14 years
Gender: Female

A number of rounded calcific densities are seen in the proximal forearm with soft tissue swelling. These have appearances consistent with phleboliths and imply an underlying vascular malformation.

A mass with high T2 and mixed T1 signal is seen within which are embedded the phleboliths seen on plain films. Features are consistent with a low flow venous malformation.

Case Discussion

Low flow venous malformation in the forearm of a 14 year old girl. Note the phleboliths.
