Extension of the peroneus brevis myotendinous junction to the level of the fibular groove on transverse images.
Preserved insertion to the base of the 5th metatarsal.

Low lying peroneus brevis muscle belly can be symptomatic due to crowding at the level of the retromalleolar groove.
