Patient Data
Extensive soft tissue injuries to both thighs with multiple foreign bodies and extensive soft tissue emphysema.
On the right, there is a degloving injury to the anterolateral thigh, extending to the knee joint with intra-articular gas.
On the left, there is a degloving to the anteromedial thigh and superior medial calf. Further soft tissue injury to the left distal thigh laterally.
No evidence of major arterial injury.
Case Discussion
Degloving soft tissue injuries are serious conditions and are most often the result of "run-over" injuries by motor vehicles. Imaging of open injuries is often not needed but in this case there was concern for major arterial injury with poor foot perfusion and absent pedal pulses.
