Ludwig angina wiith necrotizing faciitis

Presentation

Facial swelling and fever.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Severe necrotizing infection of the floor of the mouth with enhancing collection containing air and fluid extending into the parapharyngeal spaces and inferiorly into the anterior neck. Multifocal narrowing and submucosal edema involving the hypopharynx and larynx. 

Case Discussion

Very severe presentation of a necrotizing floor of mouth infection with abscesses extending along the anterior neck and into the parapharyngeal spaces. The degree of airway compromise is very alarming and this patient should be considered for prophylactic intubation.
