Ludwig's angina

Neck swelling several days post tooth extraction.

Patient Data

Age: 65
Gender: Male

CT Neck - 4 days later

Edema centered within the right submandibular space and base of tongue with adjacent subcutaneous fat stranding has increased substantially with significant mass effect with effacement of the right side of the oropharynx. Nasogastric tube and tracheostomy have been introduced.  

Appearance is consistent with Ludwig's angina (submandibular space infection) of odontogenic origin.
