Presentation
Low back pain with left sciatica.
Patient Data
Degenerated L4-5 disc with a left asymmetric disc bulge with a superimposed left paracentral zone disc extrusion posteriorly displaces the traversing left L5 nerve root. Mild spinal canal and left neural exit foraminal stenoses at L4-5.
Incidental pelvic kidney, no kidney in the right renal fossa.
Case Discussion
This is a fairly typical degenerative disc case with a small disc extrusion displacing but not compressing a traversing nerve root. The interesting part of the case is the incidental pelvic kidney, which if an anterior lumbar fusion was being considered, would be a key finding. In this case, a microdiscectomy was performed.
