Patient Data
Widened interpedicular distance in lumbosacral vertebrae suggesting spina bifida with soft tissue swelling over lower lumbar region.
Ultrasound revealed splaying of posterior elements of lower lumbar vertebrae and a large lumbar myelomeningocele with tethering of lower cord, conus medullaris and cauda equina nerve roots along dorsal aspect of spinal canal and sac of the myelomeningocele. Central canal of the cord was not dilated.
Head ultrasound showed a small well defined hypoechoic area along left caudothalamic groove which was assumed to be gliotic focus as a sequelae to prior bleed. There was no tonsillar herniation.
No tuft of hair, skin dimple, sinus, lipoma or hemangioma were seen.
