Age: 15 months

Rudimentary accessory rib arising from the right side of L1. 12 pairs of normal ribs are seen.

No other chest findings of note.

Case Discussion

This was an incidental finding on a chest radiograph performed for a febrile illness.

Lumbar (a.k.a. 13th) ribs are anecdotally very rare, although their true incidence is unknown 1.
