Presentation
Chronic low backache.
Patient Data
Bilateral transverse process of L5 appears to be dysplastic and shows pseudoarthrosis. Rudimentary L5-S1 disc space noted. Features suggestive of lumbosacral transitional vertebrae (type IIIb).
The coccyx shows mild anterior angulation, suggestive of type I.
The CT findings are well appreciated on MRI, particularly on coronal oblique T1 images.
Case Discussion
This is a classic case of lumbosacral transitional vertebrae type III b. For detailed clinical relevance, kindly refer to the article Bertolotti syndrome (lumbosacral transitional vertebrae). Also seen is a type I coccyx.
