Persistent cough since birth
Patient Data
Complete absence of left lung with a small rudimentary blind-ended left main bronchus.
The left pulmonary artery and veins are not seen.
The trachea is normal with a normal right main bronchus.
Compensatory hyperinflation of right lung herniating toward the left hemithorax.
Heart is located in the left hemithorax in close proximity to the left posterolateral chest wall.
Superior and inferior vena cava are draining normally to the right atrium and subsequently to the right ventricle.
The pulmonary trunk is originating from the right ventricle
Right pulmonary veins are draining to the left atrium and subsequently to the left ventricle.
Case Discussion
The features are diagnostic of left lung agenesis type II (aplasia).
