Lung hypoplasia (adult)

Presentation

Repeated episodes of cough.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
ct

The right lung is hypoplastic evident by the absence of upper and middle lobes.
A small right main pulmonary artery is noted which measures 9 mm.
Left pulmonary artery measures 25 mm.
The pulmonary trunk is dilated which measures 49 mm.
Over-inflated left lung.
The heart is displaced toward the right side.                                                       
Normal aspect of the cardiac chambers, thoracic aorta, SVC, and IVC.
No hilar nor mediastinal enlarged lymph node was detected.
There is no evidence of pleural thickening or effusion.
Visualized bony structures appear unremarkable.

Case Discussion

​The features are suggestive of right lung hypoplasia in association with evidence of small right pulmonary artery, pulmonary hypertension, and overinflated left lung as detailed above.
