Lymph node metastases from invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast

A patient with a multicentric carcinoma breast gets axilla ultrasound

Patient Data

Age: Adult
Gender: Female

A panoramic ultrasound image of the right breast shows a multifocal carcinoma with three distinct sites.

Lymph nodes are seen on axilla ultrasound. 

First image shows a plump node with a preserved hilum. The node measured 16 mm in diameter.

Second image show nodes with no hilum at the same axilla. This node measured 12 mm.

Case Discussion

Breast cancer confirmed with needle biopsy. Both sets of nodes were positive for malignant cells on aspiration.
