Presentation
Right axillary mass sensation
Patient Data
Multiloculated cystic mass at right axillary region with extension to soft tissue part of right hemithorax and abdomen is noted which is high in T2WI. Extension of mass to the posterior part of right SCM and also the medial side of the arm is depicted. These findings are characteristic for lymphatic malformation (previously called cystic hygroma).
Case Discussion
Lymphatic malformations are benign lesions of vascular origin that show lymphatic differentiation. It is considered the lymphatic equivalent of a hemangioma of blood vessels.
Fluid-fluid levels may be seen if complicated by hemorrhage. Signal characteristics include:
- T1: can be variable especially dependent on protein content
- T2: usually high signal
