Lymphangitis carcinomatosis

Case contributed by Dr Henry Knipe

Patient Data

Age: 70
Gender: Male

Coarse reticulonodular opacity throughout the right lung with prominent septal lines to the upper mid zones, appearances suggestive of lymphangitis infiltration. The right hilum is prominent and a nodule noted adjacent to the hilum.

Postsurgical changes noted in the left hemithorax, overinflated left lower lobe noted and pleural thickening at the left apex, with some collapse here not excluded. Cardiac silhouette size is borderline, the aortic arch is calcified.

Case Discussion

This patient has a known history of metastatic lung adenocarcinoma - this pattern is consistent with lymphangitis carcinomatosis
