Presentation

Disproportionate, progressive and painless enlargement of 2nd, 3rd and 4th digits of the left hand, since age of 2 years.

Patient Data

Age: 7 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Hypertrophy of second, third and fourth digits, with enlarged phalanges. No osteolytic or osteosclerotic changes, periosteal reaction or abnormal calcifications. The rest of the bones seems nomal.

Case Discussion

Macrodystrophia lipomatosa is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by an abnormal overgrowth of the mesenchymal elements resulting in gigantism of single or multiple digits. The growth of affected parts usually ceases at puberty.
