Malignant fibrous histiocytoma - leg

Presentation

Recurrence of the known leg mass.

Patient Data

Age: 65
Gender: Male

MRI demonstrated a well-circumscribed soft tissue mass measuring about 40*65*77mm in the anterior compartment of the right leg which is hypointense on T1WI and hyperintense on T2W sequences. There is no evidence of cortical invasion.

Case Discussion

He underwent surgery one year ago and the mass was resected and pathology confirmed malignant fibrous histiocytoma, storiforme-pleomorphic type.

Microscopic:

IHC study:

  • Cytokeratin: -
  • Vimentin: strongly positive
  • Desmin: -
  • MYO-D1: -
  • S-100: -
  • Ki67: positive (about 70%-75% of tumor cells)
  • CD68: positive
  • CD34: -

The patient was referred to us, because of repeated local recurrence and severe pain over an 8-month period.
