Presentation
Progressive anterior aspect of left thigh painless swelling
Patient Data
A large complex well defined rounded lesion is seen at the anterolateral aspect of left hip girdle. It is of mixed solid/cystic components, the cystic component returns intermediate signal on T1 and bright signal on T2/STIR likely myxoid degeneration. The solid component returns low signal on T1 and T2 with moderate nodular enhancement in post contrast study. No infiltration of the underlying muscles.
Case Discussion
Malignant fibrous histiocytoma is a sarcoma that is composed of spindle cells and histiocytes. The tumor is clinically and radiologically indistinguishable from fibrosarcoma, hence the pathology is required. The pathology in this case confirmed the diagnosis of myxoid type MFH.
