Multiple parenchymal lesions throughout both cerebral hemispheres, the largest 2.5 cm in the left frontal lobe in the para-midline with marked surrounding edema. Mild effacement of the frontal horn of the left lateral ventricle. Several metastases in both cerebellar hemispheres measuring up to 1.4 cm. Several of these lesions have high T1 signal.
1 cm lesion in the left sphenoid wing, in keeping with a bony metastasis.
Case Discussion
Melanin is one of a small number of causes of inherent high T1 signal on MR.
This patient had biopsy proven cutaneous malignant melanoma with solid organ metastases.
